Forget me not

We hope you’ve been enjoying your summer! I (Emma) am a photographer, and summer in Michigan is peak busy season! I give Lisa VanderMaas all the credit for my success as a photographer—she believed in me ten years ago and entrusted me with the responsibility of taking their family Christmas card photo (which was mailed to a lot of people!). Truthfully, the families here at Christ Church have fueled my photography business, and I am so grateful.
Photography is my passion, and I believe capturing the fleeting, wonderful, and precious moments of life—both big and small—is so important. Why? Because it’s so easy to forget! We are forgetful people by nature. We plan for months to have weddings and take vacations, hoping they’ll be unforgettable—and while wonderful memories are made, without photos to transport us back, we so often forget.
This week we’ll be looking at Psalm 98, a triumphant proclamation of God’s victory and the earth’s reply: joy! Verse 3 says, “He has remembered His promise to love and be faithful to Israel.” What an amazing thing—to be remembered by our God! He needs no reminders, and His remembering is not like scrolling through old photos to recall what dress you wore to a special occasion or which hike you took on your family trip to a national park. God’s remembering is active and intentional—moving toward us with power, purpose, and love. It is an act of redemption.
As another busy and beautiful Michigan summer comes to a close, may we rest in the truth that God remembers and is faithfully at work in each one of us.
